the great hug
2008
The Great Hug. The climax. The moment upon which a life could turn.
Our lives are full of these spaces of time where we are embroiled in a wrestle with no one but ourselves. Our wants. Our desires. Temptation. Need. The Pin Lady tells the truth. The Balloon Man doesn’t exactly lie. The Great Hug will be frightening.
Inspired by the writings of Donald Barthelme and the opposing voices that lurk inside us all, this triptych portrays an unnerving freefall conflict through space and reality in which the victor is as uncertain as the battle itself. The Balloon of Perhaps? My favourite Balloon.
